How does our biogas technology work?

Biogas is generated through the anaerobic digestion process, in which bacteria break down organic materials in an oxygen-deprived environment.

Anaerobic digestion

Organic material is placed in a gas tight container. Over a period of several days, the temperature is raised to 38 degrees Celsius.

The naturally present micro-organisms will consume the oxygen in the tunnel and start digestion.

Activate gas generation

Water from an external percolate tank is irrigated over the material in the tunnels.

This activates the biogas production and allows micro-organisms to fully digest the organic material.

Retrieval and storage

Biogas is steadily produced over the course of a few weeks.

The released biogas is transported to the percolator tank and stored in a flexible gas holder. Water in the gas is reused as it condenses back into the tank.
