Two inspiring days with Nobel Laureate Prof. Joseph Stiglitz
Over the past days, SusBDe had the unique opportunity to meet and engage in both personal and formal settings with Nobel Prize winning economist Prof. Joseph Stiglitz.
In his latest book “The Road to Freedom – Economics and the Good Society”, Stiglitz explores the urgent need for societies to tackle inequality and climate change in order to secure a stable and sustainable future. His message resonates deeply with the challenges we face at SusBDe.
While our projects consistently prove to be profitable on their own merits – even without subsidies – access to financing from governments and international institutions remains limited. India’s IREDA has been an important exception, yet institutions like IFC continue to pose significant hurdles with long lead times. At the same time, shifting political winds – such as the recent change in the U.S. government’s position on climate and green financing – only underline the importance of persistence and conviction.
Discussing these issues directly with Prof. Stiglitz was both inspiring and encouraging. His life’s work underlines the urgency of what we do: building scalable, profitable, and sustainable solutions that contribute to a fairer and greener world.
We are grateful for the time, insights, and encouragement shared, and proud to continue our journey in line with the principles that Prof. Stiglitz so powerfully advocates.

SusBDe joined the Dutch Trade Mission at IFAT India 2025 in Mumbai, presenting its Waste-to-Energy concept and engaging with partners and government leaders on advancing circular solutions in India’s growing sustainability sector.

This week, Jaap Veenenbos and Harshavardhini Varagunan represent SusBDe, it partners at the Dutch biogas sector at IFAT India 2025 in Mumbai. From the Netherlands Pavilion, they are meeting with partners, project developers, and investors to showcase how Dutch technology is driving India’s circular energy transition.

Prof. Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Prize–winning economist, engaged in in-depth discussions with Bastiaan Dijkman of SusBDe. His perspectives on inequality and climate change resonate strongly with the challenges SusBDe faces: developing profitable, scalable projects that still struggle to secure government and institutional financing. These exchanges underscored both the urgency of action and the need for persistence in building a fairer, more sustainable future.

Local Expertise. Global Impact. SusbDe’s regional partners drive the transition to circular, decentralized energy—turning waste into value across five continents. Discover how our on-the-ground network delivers smart, scalable biogas solutions that meet the world where it matters most: locally

SusBDe Strengthens International Ties at WOCA 2025: As part of our mission to drive global sustainability through biogas innovation, SusBDe participated in this year’s WOCA 2025 in France. Our presence at this international forum for circular economy leaders opened the door to exciting new collaborations across continents.

The SusBDe LOC Nagpur Project is a milestone in sustainable waste management. In Phase 1, a Dry Fermentation Transportable Biogas Plant proved its potential, thanks to collaboration with SusBDe, Keva Group, Keva SusBDe Biotech (KSB), and WTT, The Netherlands, supported by Dutch agencies. Phase 2 will complete a large-scale biogas plant to process 1,200 MT of waste in Nagpur, led by Kedar Vaze and Keva SusBDe Biotech Pvt Ltd, advancing waste-to-energy innovation in India.
