Nagpur Sets the Blueprint forWaste-to-CBG Projects in India

SusBDe presents its flagship Nagpur project through anew project showcase and video, demonstrating how municipal waste can betransformed into renewable energy and valuable resources at industrial scale.

A Journey from Vision to Reality – 2021 to Today

What began in 2021 as an ambitious vision to transform municipal solid waste into renewable energy has evolved into one of SusBDe's most significant reference projects in India.

A major milestone was achieved in 2023 with the signing of the concession agreement, followed in 2024 by the involvement of Keva Fragrances Private Limited as the Indian project promoter and the personal commitement of Mr. Kedar Vaze.

Today, the Nagpur project demonstrates how long-term commitment, determination and close cooperation between Indian and Dutch partners can turn an ambitious vision into an industrial-scale renewable energy facility.

Located in Bhandewadi, Nagpur, the integrated Waste-to-Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) facility demonstrates how international technology, engineering expertise, local project execution and long-term operational arrangements can be brought together within a single waste-to-energy project.

To showcase this achievement, SusBDe has published adedicated project presentation, including a new video offering an inside lookat the facility, its technology and its phased development.

A Landmark Project with Significant Capacity

Developed on approximately 12 hectares, the Nagpur facility is designed to process up to 1,200 tons of municipal solid waste per day.

The installation integrates mechanical waste segregation, 30 sealed dry fermentation tunnels, biogas upgrading and the recovery of recyclable materials and organic fertilizer.

With a full design capacity of approximately 55 tonsof CBG per day, the project illustrates the potential of large-scale renewablegas production from municipal waste.

As of October 2026, two fermentation sections areoperational, with the third under construction. Reported CBG production is approximately 28 tons per day, demonstrating the project's continued progress through phased commissioning.

International Cooperation, Local Execution

Nagpur is the result of sustained cooperation between Indian project stakeholders and Dutch and Indian technology and engineering partners.

From project development and engineering to technology integration, construction and commissioning, the facility demonstrates the importance of combining international expertise with strong local execution capabilities.

It also reflects SusBDe's integrated Ready-to-Operate(RtO) approach: bringing together the essential elements required to develop, realize and support complex renewable energy projects.

A Blueprint for Future Development

Beyond its importance for Nagpur, the project providesa valuable reference for further municipal waste-to-CBG developments throughoutIndia.

By combining waste treatment, renewable energyproduction, resource recovery and long-term project arrangements, the Nagpurmodel demonstrates how municipal waste challenges can be addressed through anintegrated circular economy approach.

For SusBDe, the experience gained since 2021 providesan important foundation for future MSW project development throughout Indiathrough its joint venture company, Keva SusBDe Biotech Private Limited, while pursuing projects involving other waste streams through separate development platforms..

The ambition is to build on the Nagpur experience andreplicate this integrated approach in future projects, contributing to India'sgrowing demand for sustainable waste management and renewable energy solutions.
